Bible Verse Memory: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Monday: Catechism Bible Story – The Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31)

“Now, I say, whatever you set your heart on and put your trust in is truly your god.” (LC, I, 3) It is not that the rich man was a sinner and Lazarus was not. They were both sinners before God. But the faith of their hearts was not the same. What kind of man was the rich man? What was his status in the eyes of the world? Who or what was his god? What kind of man was Lazarus? What was his status in the eyes of the world? Who or what was his God? Who had the right God?

Tuesday: Feast of St. Mary, Mother of Our Lord – Luke 1: 46-55

What kind of woman was Mary? What was her status in the eyes of the world? Who was her God?

Wednesday: Old Testament – Isaiah 56:1, 6–8

What kind of people are the “foreigners”? Read vs. 6. Who was (despite their ethnic heritage) their God? In whom did put their trust? What might have been their status in the eyes of the children of Abraham by blood?

Thursday: Holy Gospel – Matthew 15:21–28

In the 1st Commandment it is as though God is saying, “See to it that you let Me alone be you’re God, and never seek another.” In other words, “whatever you lack of good things, expect it from Me. Look to Me for it. And whenever you suffer misfortune and distress, crawl, and cling to Me. (LC, I, 4). What kind of a woman was the Canaanite? What was her status in the eyes of the world? Who was her God? Who or what was she clinging to in her time of distress?

Friday: Epistle – Romans 11:1–2a, 13–15, 28–32

Read Romans 11:32. What kind of people are all of us? How does God respond to all of us when we look to Him?
