Monday: Catechism Bible Story – Matthew 7:24-27

What was the difference between the house built by the wise builder and the house built by the foolish builder? What do you think Jesus means when He talks about a sandy base? What do you think Jesus means when He talks about the rock? – LCMS School Ministry: Rooted in Christ Chapel Talks, pg. 16

Tuesday: Jeremiah 15:15–21

In these verses, Jeremiah is hanging on by a thread after his preaching has been constantly ignored and he has suffered persecution and rejection. How does God respond to his troubled soul?

Wednesday: Holy Gospel – Matthew 16:21–28

After St. Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, our Lord began to show his disciples that he must go and suffer and die on the cross (Matt 16:21). Upon hearing this “theology of the cross,” Simon Peter stumbled into a satanic “theology of glory.” But the glory of God is revealed in the Passion and cross of His incarnate Son. What are some ways we stumble into a “theology of glory”?

Thursday: Commemoration of St. Monica, Mother of Augustine (LSB 862:3)

St. Monica, mother of St. Augustine, was a native of North Africa and lived from about AD 333 to 387. She has ever been regarded as an inspiring example of a godly mother who persists in prayer. She spent her life seeking the spiritual welfare of others, above all her husband, her children, and her friends. Her son spent much of his early life not believing in Jesus, and St. Monica never stopped praying that the Holy Spirit would bring him to repentance and faith in Christ. Do you know someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus? How can St. Monica serve as an example?

Friday: Epistle – Romans 12:9–21

The Christian life is a discipleship of self-sacrificing love. Since Christ Jesus has reconciled us to God, we “live peaceably with all” (Rom. 12:18). Read vs. 12. What does the certainty of Jesus’ cross and resurrection bring to us?
