Bible Verse Memory: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:6-7

Monday: Catechism Bible Story – Exodus 16:1-21

The people of Israel were hungry. They could have trusted in the God who rescued them from slavery, but instead, they chose to complain. What would God do? Read about it in Exodus 16:1-21. What did the people of Israel forget about God? How did God show His love and care to the Israelites? Do you ever complain about the food God gives you? What will God do if you say I’m sorry? He’ll show you mercy, just like He did with the Israelites! – Luther’s Small Catechism for Kids, 78

Tuesday: First Reading – Acts 2:14a, 36-41

Read Acts 2:38. By what means do we receive the forgiveness of sins?

Wednesday: Epistle – 1 Peter 1:17-25

Read 1 Peter 1:18-19. By what means have we been ransomed from our sinful and mortal life? Read 1 Peter 1:23. By what means have we been born again to eternal life?

Thursday: Holy Gospel – Luke 24:13-35

Read Luke 24:27. What means does Jesus use to open the minds of His disciples? Read Luke 24:35. What means does Jesus use to bring us to know Him?

Friday: With High Delight Let Us Unite (483)

Hebrews 2:14-15 insists that Christ became incarnate so that through death He might destroy the power of death. “His death has been death’s undoing” (st. 2). This the Gospel! This is what we proclaim to a world that is captive to sin and death. We sing it in the Alleluia and Verse in the Divine Service (LSB p. 156). How does this characterize the message we have for the world?

The Fourth Petition

Give us this day our daily bread.

What does this mean?

God certainly gives daily bread to everyone without our prayers, even to all evil people, but we pray in this petition that God would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.

What is meant by daily bread?

Daily bread includes everything that has to do with the support and needs of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home, land, animals, money, goods, a devout husband or wife, devout children, devout workers, devout and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, self-control, good reputation, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like.

Family Prayers

For___________________, let us pray to the Lord.

Lord, have mercy.

Lord’s Prayer

Taught by our Lord and trusting in His promises, we are bold to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven…
