What does this mean?

God’s name is certainly holy in itself…

How is God’s name kept holy?

God’s name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity…

Bible Verse Memory: “Let him who has My word speak my word faithfully.” – Jeremiah 23:28

Monday: Catechism – Numbers 6:23-27

God and His name cannot be separated. His name includes who He is, what He does, and His very presence among us. As Christians, we honor (hollow) God’s name as Father when we call upon Him in faith, proclaim His love for us, and live according to His Word. What is the connection between this petition and the Second Commandment. Where is God’s Name referenced in the Divine Service?

Tuesday: Old Testament – Genesis 17:1–7, 15–16

How did God introduce Himself to Abram? What’s the very next thing God tells Abram after introducing Himself? Why would knowing God’s name change the way Abram walks? Why did God change Abram’s name? Who is Abraham’s offspring through whom we too are blessed?

Wednesday: “Seeing Is Not Believing” Lenten Sermon Series – Mark 14:26-31

As the disciples made their way to the Mount of Olives in the dark of the night, the disciples couldn’t see where they were going . . . and they couldn’t see where Jesus was going. There in the dark of their misunderstanding, all the disciples could see was themselves. Just like the disciples, we’re prone to not understand where we’re going, and we become fixated on ourselves. We forget that our Christian are not about us. What are some ways you’re prone to make it all about you?

Thursday: Holy Gospel –  Mark 8:27–38

Right after St. Peter confessed Jesus to be “the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” Jesus told Him it was necessary for Him to go and suffer many things, be rejected, die and then rise again. Why was this so hard for Peter to believe? How did Jesus respond to Peter’s reaction?

Friday: Epistle – Romans 5:1–11

How can we sure God loves us even we fail to live holy lives as the children He’s made us through Holy Baptism? How does God define love? How did God show us that He loves even us? What is the result of God’s love for us?

The Order of Meditation and Prayer

Catechism Memory: The Lord’s Prayer – First Petition and Explanation

Hallowed be Thy name.

What does this mean?

God’s name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also.

How is God’s name kept holy?

God’s name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God’s Word profanes the name of God among us. Protect us from this, heavenly Father!
