Bible Verse Memory: “Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says, “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.” – 1 Corinthians 12:3
Monday: Catechism Bible Story – John 5:24-29 (Third Article, Part 3)
Jesus talked about a day when He will come back to earth to judge the living and the dead. Read about it in John 5:24-29. Who will have eternal life? Believers in Jesus look forward to His return with joy, not fear. Why is that?
Tuesday: Old Testament – Exodus 24:8–18
No one could see the glory of the LORD and live, and yet “Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and the seventy of the elders of Israel,” went up the mountain, “beheld God and ate and drank with Him.” (vv. 9, 11). How was this possible? Hint: the answer is in verse 8.
Wednesday: Epistle – 2 Peter 1:16–21
St. Peter refers to the extraordinary transfiguration event to show that the facts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus were not myths. What are some modern-day myths that need to be discredited? How can the truth of the facts of the life of Jesus bring comfort to despairing people? (From LCMS Worship Hymn of the Day study)
Thursday: Holy Gospel – Luke 9:28-36
Every week, we also behold the Lord, our God and eat and drink with Him in the Sacrament of the Altar. How is this possible? Hint: the answer is in the Words of Institution.
Friday: O Wondrous Type! O Vision Fair (413)
The joyous melody of this hymn and the clearly told facts of the transfiguration make it memorable. The very title of the hymn gives us a word that must be understood in its biblical sense — “type.” A type is a preview of what was fulfilled in Christ Jesus. So, Melchizedek (Gen. 14:17–24; Ps. 110:4) was a type of Christ. In what ways is the transfiguration a type (again, preview) of heaven?
The Order of Meditation and Prayer
The sign of the cross + may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.
Invocation
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Verse of the Week
Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:3
Catechism Memory
What is the 3rd Article of the Apostles’ Creed?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
What does this mean (All)?
I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.
In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.
On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.
