Monday: Catechism Bible Story – John 6:60-65
The Bible is completely true and has no mistakes. It tells us everything we need to know and believe for our Christian faith and life. God’s promises create faith in Jesus. Jesus tells us that all the Scriptures are God’s own words and completely true. Why can be sure that the Bible is the true Word of God? Look up John 10:35. How does Jesus see the Old Testament? What does He say about the Scriptures? Read John 6:63. How does Jesus understand His words? Read John 14:26. How does Jesus see the words of the apostles (which have been written down for us)? – Luther’s Small Catechism for Kids, pg. 7
Tuesday: Old Testament – Malachi 3:13–18
During the time of Malachi, God’s people grew weary of serving God and living lives of repentance (vs. 14-15), because it seemed like the wicked, evildoers ended up just as blessed as them. Read vv. 16 -17. How does the coming Day of Judgment assure God’s people that their service is not vain?
Wednesday: Commemoration of Elizabeth of Hungary
Born in Pressburg, Hungary, in 1207, Elizabeth was the daughter of King Andrew II and his wife, Gertrude. Given as a bride in an arranged political marriage, Elizabeth became the wife of Louis of Thuringia in Germany at age 14. She had a spirt of Christian generosity and charity, and the home she established was known for its hospitality and family love. She is remembered for her self-sacrificing ways. How can you show hospitality in your life? Is your home known for its hospitality?
Thursday: Holy Gospel – Luke 23:27–43
We serve Jesus already now as those who belong to Him and live under Him in His Kingdom. Yet, we also look forward to the day when sin, death, and the devil will no longer hinder us from serving Him with complete devotion. What is the basis for our confession and confidence that we will live forever in His Kingdom?
Friday: Epistle – Colossians 1:13–20
In Holy Baptism a Christian is transferred from the domain of darkness and into kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (vs. 13-14). According to Luther’s Small Catechism, for what purpose did Christ do all of this? Finish the sentence, “that I may be His own…”
