GLCA Learn by Heart Hymn: These Are the Holy Ten Commands (581: ALL)

GLCA Catechism Memory: Review Ten Commandments (All) & Explanations

     (2nd grade +)

Bible Verse Memory: “For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” – James 2:10

Monday: Catechism Bible Story – Mark 10:17-31  Why does Jesus direct this young man to the Law? How does the young man reply? Does the young man believe he is righteous by the standard of the Law? Is he telling the truth? What commandment is Jesus preaching to the man when He tells him, “one thing you lack…” What is the one thing the man lacks? Jesus declared, “with God all things are possible,” even what? How is it possible for unbelieving, idolatrous sinners to be saved? Answer: faith in Jesus! That’s the point! – Lutheran Catechesis, pg. 63

Tuesday: Old Testament – Malachi 4:1–6  For those who refuse to repent and believe the Gospel, God’s judgment means utter destruction (see vs. 1). But for those who “fear His name,” it is a day of great rejoicing (see vs. 2). God does not desire that any should perish, but that all would be brought to repentance (2 Peter 3). Read Malachi 4:5-6. Why does God send Elijah? Why does God send preachers?

Wednesday: Epistle – 2 Thessalonians 3 :1–13  Thanks be to God, He continues to call us to repentance and faith in Jesus through the preaching of His Holy Word so that we would have no fear of His judgment.  But “not all have faith.” Read verses 4-5. What is Paul’s prayer for those who do?

Thursday: Holy Gospel –Luke 21:5–28  The signs of the Lord’s coming are all around: the cross that marks His Church, the violence and death of the sinful world, and the shaking of the natural order. Jesus promises that “There will be great distress upon the earth” (Luke 21:23), but the faithful know that “the kingdom of God is near” (Luke 21:31). According to Luke 21:28, what should be our response to these signs?

Friday: Commemoration of Emperor Justinian, Christian Ruler & Confessor of Christ  Prayer: Lord God, heavenly Father, through the governance of Christian leaders such as Emperor Justinian, Your name is freely confessed in our nation and throughout the world. Grant that we may continue to choose trustworthy leaders who will serve You faithfully in our generation and make wise decisions that contribute to the general warfare of Your people; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.  – Treasury of Daily Prayer
