Bible Verse Memory: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
Monday: Catechism Bible Story – Deuteronomy 30:1-10 In the Close of the Commandments, God shows how intensely He wants us to cling to Him alone. God describes Himself as a “jealous God,” meaning He refuses to share us with other false gods. Do people think that God cares about the way they live? Why or why not? Read Deuteronomy 30:1-10. Why is God making these threats and promises? How do God’s threats and promises shape the way you view Him and His actions? – 2017 Small Catechism with Explanation, pg. 120
Tuesday: Old Testament – Exodus 3:1-15 God reveals Himself to Moses as “I AM,” the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He is the God who saw the affliction of His people and delivered them. He says this is His name forever. He wants to be known as the God who delivers His people. What has God delivered you from? Read 1 Cor. 15:54-57. How did God deliver you from the enemy of death?
Wednesday: Epistle –2 Thessalonians 2:1-8, 13-17 God wants us to cling to Him alone, but sometimes false teachers will come and try and distract us from Him and His Word. Read verses 13-17. How should we make sure to not be pulled away from Him?
Thursday: Holy Gospel – Luke 20:27-40 Some of the false teachers in Jesus’ day denied the resurrection of the body. But Jesus stood firm on the Scriptures and proved the resurrection. Christians live as sons and daughters of the resurrection, knowing that our God is not a god of the dead, but He is God of the living. In what part of the Creeds do we confess these things?
Friday: Commemoration of Martin Chemnitz, Pastor & Confessor (Nov 9) Aside from Martin Luther, Martin Chemnitz (1522-86) is regarded as the most important theologian in the history of the Lutheran Church. He is the principal author of the 1577 Formula of Concord, which settled doctrinal disputes on the basis of Holy Scripture. He rigorously subjected all the teachings of the Roman church at that time to judgment of the Scripture. Why is it so important that everything we teach at Church to the Holy Scriptures? What happens when we don’t?

Verse of the Week
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
Catechism Memory
What does God say about all these commandments?
He says, “I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.” – Exodus 20:5-6
What does this mean?
God threatens to punish all who break these commandments. Therefore, we should fear His wrath and not do anything against them. But He promises grace and every blessing to all who keep these commandments. Therefore, we should also love and trust in Him and gladly do what He commands.
