Bible Verse Memory: “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”- Mark 10:6-8
Monday: Catechism Bible Story – Genesis 2:22-25 God gives us the Fifth Commandment to protect His wonderful gift of marriage. Marriage was created by God as the lifelong union of a man and a woman for the giving and receiving of love, mutual help and joy, and the procreation and nurturing of children. Is marriage between a man and a woman held in high regard today? Why or why not? How can you talk about marriage in ways that reflect God’s good purposes for it? 2017 Catechism, pg. 93ff
Tuesday: Old Testament – Amos 6:1–7 Many people in Israel were choosing to live an easy and comfortable life, “lying on beds of ivory and stretch themselves out on their couches” (vs 4). They only cared about themselves and their comfort and were ignoring the needs of others. How did God respond through His prophet Amos?
Wednesday: Epistle – 1 Timothy 3:1–13 This coming Sunday, Mr. Pratt will be installed as a vicar at Grace Lutheran Church. A vicar is what we call someone who is training to be a pastor. He will be a “pastor in training” for two years. Read the list of requirements for being a pastor in this chapter. Why is it so important that pastors meet these requirements? Say a prayer for Mr. Pratt, asking God to guide him and teach him.
Thursday: Holy Gospel – Luke 16:19–31 Your god is whatever you put your faith in, whatever you turn to in order to find purpose in your life, your meaning or identity, wherever you look for hope for the future. At the end of the day, the only question that matters is whether you have the true God or not. What or who did the rich man put his faith in during his life? What or who did Lazarus put his faith in during his life? In the end, who had the true God?
Friday: Psalm 146 Put not your trust in princes. It‘s tempting to put our trust in things like money, wealth, and power. But what can’t they give? What does the Lord do for us? – Enduring Grace: A Church Year Journal for Kids, pg. 138
