Monday: Table of Duties – To Youth
“Submission” and “humility” are not terms that any of us naturally gravitate toward. The sinful flesh wants to submit to no one and is filled with arrogance and pride. Where does the will to “submit” and “humble oneself” come from? (Lutheran Catechesis: Catechist Edition, pg. 382) Hint: Whenever St. Paul says, “clothe yourself,” he’s alluding to Holy Baptism. Read vs. 5. “In the same way” takes us back to how Christ treats us. How has Christ treated you?
Tuesday: First Reading – Acts 11:1–18
Read Acts 11:18. Is repentance an act of the human will? Where does repentance come from? What causes repentance? Read vs. 14. What does the message of the Gospel accomplish?
Wednesday: Second Reading – Revelation 21:1–7
Jesus gives to John a beautiful, breathtaking image of a new creation: a new heaven and a new earth. Then He says, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Jesus gives this image to John when he is getting old and dying, but He makes this promise in the present tense. Jesus is already making things new, but it’s hidden from the naked eye. Where do we see God at work already making things new? Read the text of LSB 593.
Thursday: Holy Gospel – John 16:12–22
How does the promise of the forgiveness of sins accomplished by Jesus turn your “mourning into dancing”? How can you have joy already even in the midst of mourning?
Friday: At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing (633)
God’s deliverance of Israel from Egypt through the Passover and the Exodus prefigures the way He rescued us from sin, death and the devil through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He gives us this victory in the waters of Holy Baptism and in the bread and wine of the Sacrament of the Altar. How is the death and resurrection of Jesus similar to the Passover? How is Holy Communion similar to the feast of the Passover? How is Holy Baptism similar to the crossing of the Red Sea waters by the Israelites? – LCMS Worship Hymn of the Day Bible Studies: Easter, pg. 17
The Order of Meditation and Prayer
The sign of the cross + may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism

Catechism Memory (GLCA): Table of Duties— To Workers of All Kinds
Certain passages of Scripture for various holy orders and positions, admonishing them about their duties and responsibilities.
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you. – 1 Peter 5:5-6

Collect of the Day for Easter 5
O God, You make the minds of Your faithful to be of one will. Grant that we may love what You have commanded and desire what You promise, that among the many changes of this world our hearts may be fixed where true joys are found; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
