I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church…

Third Grade +

Bible Verse Memory: “When the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of me.” – John 15:26

Monday: Catechism Bible Story – John 15:26 – 16:15

Why is the Holy Spirit given? Why were the disciples sorrowful? Where was Jesus going? What will the Holy Spirit do? What does the world “convict” mean? Why is the Holy Spirit called “the Spirit of Truth?” Whom, or what, does the Holy Spirit give us?  – Lutheran Catechesis by Pastor Bender, pg. 145.

Tuesday: Old Testament – Isaiah 40:21-31

By what means does the Lord renew the strength of His people today (think in terms of the Explanation to the 3rd Article of the Creed).

Wednesday: Epistle – 1 Corinthians 9:16-27

The Holy Spirit continues His work of calling sinners to repentance and faith in Jesus through those whom He has sent, who are “entrusted with a stewardship” to “preach the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16–17). If the work of the Holy Spirit is to “bear witness” or “testify” to the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done for the world, what does that say about preachers who don’t preach Christ?

Thursday: Holy Gospel – Mark 1:29-39

Like sick patients receive healing medicine through IVs at a hospital, people infected with the disease of sin receive healing medicine through God’s Word. What might happen to a sick patient who is disconnected from their IV? And a person sick with sin who is disconnected from the healing medicine of the Gospel?

Friday: Purification of Mary and Presentation of Our Lord – Luke 2:22-32

Almighty and ever-living God, as Your only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in the substance of our flesh, grant that we may be presented to You with pure and clean hearts; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen – Collect for the Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Our Lord

Bible Verse Memory

“When the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of me.” – John 15:26

Catechism Memory: The 3rd Article, 1st & 2nd Paragraphs of Explanation

I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.

In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the on true faith.

In this Christian church, He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.
