Monday: Table of Duties – Children and Parents
Obedience and honor are not reserved for parents who always do the right thing or who have “earned” the respect of their children. The Gospel teaches us to honor our parents especially when they do not deserve such honor, because this is what God has done for us in Christ. How does Jesus’ relationship with his sinful parents show this? What is the promise God attaches to honoring our parents? – Lutheran Catechesis: Catechist Edition, pg. 379
Tuesday: First Reading – Acts 9:1-22
Describe Saul’s role at Stephen’s death and at the beginning of this Bible story. How did Jesus change Saul? How was Saul blind before Jesus spoke to him? You were blind in the same way. What event healed Saul’s blindness? What event healed your blindness? – 120 Bible Stories, pg. 249
Wednesday: Second Reading – Revelation 5:8-14
Why is the Lamb considered worthy? How did the cross of Jesus conquer death? According to v. 9, \what did the shedding of the Lamb’s blood accomplish?
Thursday: Feast of St. Philip and St. James, Apostles (John 14:1-14)
Prayer: Almighty God, Your Son revealed Himself to Philip and James and gave them the knowledge of everlasting life. Grant us perfectly to know Your Son, Jesus Christ, to be the way, the truth, and the life, and steadfastly to walk in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Friday: Holy Gospel – John 21:1-14
The same Lord who ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation visits people of all nations and calls them to Himself today. How does He do this (Hint: read Romans 10:14-17).
