Bible Verse Memory: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

Monday: Catechism Bible Story – Isaiah 53:3-6

Action verbs. You know what those are — words like jumped, flew, exploded, swaggered. The Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed, the Jesus section, is full of action verbs. What are they? The “Suffering Servant” section of Isaiah, the Jesus section, is full of action verbs, too. Read part of it Isaiah 53:3-6. What are the action verbs?

Tuesday: Epistle -1 Corinthians 6:12–20

All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful.” (1 Cor. 6:12). The things you do with your body, your “action verbs” matter.” Why? Read 1 Cor. 6:19.

Wednesday: Psalm 139:1-10

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you (1 Cor. 6:19). God’s Holy Spirit is always with you! The Psalmist writes, “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?’ Is this good news or bad news? For those who confess their sins and are forgiven in Christ, it is the best news!

Thursday: Holy Gospel – John 1:43–51

The Lord Jesus calls Philip and Nathanael to “come and see” that He is “the Son of God” and “the King of Israel” (John 1:43–49). And they shall see even “greater things than these” (John 1:50). For His body is the temple of God on earth, and by His priestly sacrifice the heavens will be opened to all who believe and are baptized into Him. Where are we invited to “come and see” the heavens opened up?

Friday: The Only Son from Heaven (LSB 402)

Out Hymn of the Day for Sunday ties the birth and epiphany of our Lord to how God is present with us in the Divine Service. How would the following phrases make these connections for us now? “He comes, the king anointed, The Christ, the virgin-born.” “To open heav’n before us And bring us life again.” “That we, through this world moving, each glimpse of heaven proving, May reap its fullness there.” – LCMS Worship Hymn of the Day Studies, 402
