Catechism/Bible Verse Memory: What is the Sacrament of the Altar? (LSB pg. 326)

Monday: Catechism Bible Story – God Provides Manna and Quail (120 Bible Stories, pg. 58; Exodus 16)

What is it?” The Israelites, God’s Old Testament people, asked that question the first time they saw little flakes of bread on the ground. The answer God gave was “manna.” It was bread to feed them when they most needed it — food miraculously sent from heaven for their hunger and daily needs. Manna is not the only miraculous food God sends His people, though. In the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion, God gives to His people the most miraculous and satisfying food of all time. “What is it?” Read Matthew 26:26-29. How does Jesus answer the question?

Tuesday: Old Testament – Nehemiah 8:1–3, 5–6, 8–10

After about 70 years in captivity, King Cyrus of Persia announced that he would send the Jewish people back to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple. Ezra and Nehemiah not only led God’s people in rebuilding the Temple, but they also called the people back to obeying God and hearing His Word. The people rejoiced that they were able to be back in God’s house, hearing His Word. How does Nehemiah describe their feelings about being able to hear God’s Word again? Can you imagine your life without hearing God’s Word?

Wednesday: Epistle – 1 Corinthians 12:12–31a

We are meant to be in God’s house, hearing His Word all together. We are one body. When one member of our body is missing, we recognize their absence. Can you imagine life without a part of your body? Why is it so important to think about the members of Church as distinct parts of a body?

Thursday: Holy Gospel – Luke 4:16–30

In Luke 4:1-13, Jesus is victorious over Satain. When He comes back home and is teaching in the synagogue, things start to change. The people are happy at first with the “gracious words that were coming from His mouth” (vs. 22), but once He starts talking about including Gentiles in His mission of salvation (Sidon was not part of God’s people), what happens (vv. 28-29)? According to verses 18-19, what had Jesus come to do for all people?

Friday: Feast of St. Timothy, Pastor & Confessor – 1 Timothy 6:11-16

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, You have always given to Your Church on earth faithful shepherds such as Timothy to guide and feed Your flock. Make all pastors diligent to preach Your holy Word and administer Your means of grace and grant Your people wisdom to follow in the way that leads to life eternal; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
