By His death on the cross, Christ accomplished salvation, providing forgiveness of sins for the entire world. Unless His good news is made known to you personally, however, it does not benefit you. How do I know your  sins are forgiven before God in heaven? Read John 20:19-23. How does Jesus make known His forgiveness? What comfort does forgiveness through a pastor give me when I am tempted to doubt my identity as God’s child? (LSC, 2017 Explanation, 315).

Catechism Memory: The Lord’s Prayer – Sixth Petition and Explanation

And lead us not into temptation.

What does this mean?

God tempts no one. We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice. Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory.
